Car guy, driving some cool cars
What started to be the wish for having a convertible (again) finally worked out. Slightly differentl y than expected. I started with driving the Mazda MX5 RF, considered the BMW Z4 in both versions, the 3.0i as well as the Z4 M40i and ended up realizing, that even though it’s car number 3 in our parking lot, having only 2 seats makes things complicated sometimes. So the search continued and I started looking for a convertible with 4 seats.

This was my first ever visit to the IAA, the worlds largest Automotive trade show. I was there for business reason (so I was able to be there during the first days with much less visitors) but I also had some free time to see the IAA on my own.
My first impression: This is huge. On other trade fairs, companies build a booth, here they „only“ build the interior of the booth and take the whole hall as a booth (Mercedes). This was impressive.

I was lucky to drive the BMW Z4 30i (2019/G29) for two days around Munich. Some days later I was even more lucky to take the BMW Z4 M40i out for another 2 days. I will do a review on both and also do a comparison later. But let’s get started with the BMW Z4 30i.
The BMW Z4 30i is the well known 4 cylinder engine, also found in the new BMW 3 Series or the BMW 5 Series. In its Z4 specific (EU) configuration (In the US the engine has more power thanks to lower environmental standards) the 30i produces 258 horsepower. The BMW Z4 30i is surrounded by the M40i and the 20i. So is the BMW Z4 30i the best choice?
